Let’s talk about what it is, how it works, and why it’s beneficial.
Back in the 40’s a lady named Edith Kramer brought art therapy into play in working with children, (they are especially able to communicate this way) and it has its roots absolutely in philosophy and psychology and holistic medicine from the beginning of psychology as we know it today. (Ever seen a crime TV show where a patient is being told to draw or write after a trauma? Then you have seen art therapy in action.) As with all of the arts and mediums, AT by way of drawing, coloring, painting and doing some simple exercises, takes your brain on a different neuropathway to feeling better about yourself.
I’ve been asked about how this helps those with chronic illness in a physical way. Primarily, this would support all the treatments you are getting, and help you assist with the mental and emotional toll that illness brings into your life. It is primarily about getting yourself into a positive state of wellbeing which can aid in any and all physical treatment.
AT is beneficial in battling anxiety and depression and can also simply help anyone on a journey of self-discovery and fulfillment, bringing about emotional healing and an overall sense of wellbeing. Group sessions are beneficial when you are with like-minded folks working toward a common goal. For certain pathologies or wellness goals, individual one-on-one sessions may be a better fit.
We help you CUT that yuck out of your insides, (the emotional yuck), get it out, recognize it, and be able to eventually set it aside and move forward with your life. It sounds simplistic, but I’ve been practicing this from the other side for a few years and I can tell you it has absolutely changed my life. It’s not rocket science, but it is neuroscience. Working with the neuropathways in your brain to reach the unconscious mind. However we do that, it is so beneficial.
Please feel free to ask me anything you’d like to know to understand it better and consider joining me in taking on this journey.
